The first match saw Northland beat Taranaki 26-19. Northland's points came from tries by Dean Budd, Simon Munro, and Lachie Munro; the last-named also scored 3 penalties and a conversion. For Taranaki, Chris Walker scored a try and Willie Ripia scored 4 penalties and a conversion.
Also, Quade Cooper won't be in the Tri-Nations test against the All Blacks because he will be serving a two-match ban for a dangerous tackle last weekend.
